Female Lolita
Nabokov’s famous novel, Lolita, would have several important and essential dissimilarities had it been authored by a woman. A girl writer could have created a more complex and sympathetic characterization intended for Lolita, broadening on Nabokov’s treatment of Lolita as just a vulgar representation of the features of the nymphet. The impact of Humbert’s infatuation with Lolita and their sex affair might have been investigated more carefully by a woman author. Additional, Humbert could have felt a deeper embarrassment for his actions in the hands of the woman article writer.
Lolita is, in essence, the storyplot of the middle section aged Hubert Humphrey’s passion and resulting affair with a prepubescent woman. Early in his life, Humbert was disturbed by the loss of life of his childhood like for Annabel Leigh. This death makes Humphrey attracted to young, prepubescent girls, or perhaps nymphets. Humphries meets Lolita, the beautiful small daughter from the bitter widow Charlotte Haze. He unites Charlotte to remain near to Lolita, and starts an affair with Lolita when Charlotte dies. Humbert and Lolita travel over the U. S. For a 12 months, and Lolita eventually goes away. Humbert later finds out that Lolita features run away with Clare Quilty, who at some point discards Lolita after she refuses to are available in a child porn material film. Humbert kills Clare Quilty, and is also thrown in imprisonment, while Lolita dies at the time of birth. The foreword shows that Humbert dies in captivity.
Several aspects of Nabokov’s Lolita could have been completely different if the woman had written the new. While Nabokov is a masterful and often lyrical storyteller, Lolita is clearly written through a man’s activities and standpoint. A woman novelist would have included a more female-oriented perspective into the novel. This female perspective would have drastically altered the characters in Lolita, the novel’s remedying of the repercussions of Humbert’s actions, and the growth of the male character Humbert to understand the impact of his actions.
Lolita’s character could have been more complex and sympathetic if written by the palm of a woman novelist. In Nabokov’s male viewpoint, Lolita is little more than the personification of the nymphet. She is sexy (at least to Humbert), and referred to largely simply according to Humbert’s perception. The novel begins with Humbert talking about his passion for Lolita. Writes Nabokov, “Lolita, lumination of my life, fire of my froid. My trouble, my soul. ” Later on in the book, Nabokov continues to describe Lolita, but always in light of his needs and desires, and almost never taking into consideration her point-of-view. Creates Nabokov of Lolita: “She was music and apple-sweet… Lola the bobby-soxer, consuming her immemorial fruit, singing through the juice… Each movement your woman made, every shuffle and ripple, allowed me to to conceal and to improve the secret system of tactile correspondence between beast and splendor – among my gagged, bursting beast and the magnificence of her dimpled body system in its blameless cotton frock. ” feminine novelist may have brought a rounder
