Towards the end of the book, Holden needs a visit to see Pheope yet is unable to find her. People who find themselves depressed don’t look for a solution. They have absolutely no motivation and they are always second guessing stuff. They think the only way out is fatality, suicide. Much like what Holden and Cameron seem to feel.
