Douglas Turner can be described as fifteen-year-old son with a severe stutter who have suffers from ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER and ADD. He’s currently put in special education. His friends and family consists of a mom, aged 40, and a father, outdated 47. They are African-American. Douglas and his family members live in a two-bedroom flat. Douglas’ father works as a sales person for a Jewlry company and the mother can be described as homemaker.

Pursuits

Douglas’ current interests include Anime, he likes viewing “Attack on Titan, inches music, he listens to a variety of pop and hip-hop artists, and baseball. Douglas mentioned this individual like being active and lots of of his interests revolve around focusing on various things all the time so he keeps from getting bored. Douglas also enjoys making hand signals when he performs baseball in the outfield. Douglas refrains by things which can be too repetitive as he quickly loses interest.

Initial Discussions

When initially talking to Douglas and his mom, I found that Douglas had a hard time centering on one thing. His focus was best with things that have been quick to absorb and easy to distinguish. He made an appearance friendly and outgoing, not shy or resistant, even with his serious stutter. His willingness to communicate as well as the support with the mother can make it so I was able to understand exactly where his problems and disadvantages lied. Although he has its own learning impairments, his willingness to interact personally is a power I wanted to cope with in future conversations.

Point of Inquiry

Douglas did not have got issues interacting. The problem and the reason why he can in special education is a result of his failure to focus and concentrate very long to absorb effectively the material. Due to the fact his ATTENTION DEFICIT-HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER and ADD. He can on medicine , but probably adapting a visual aspect of learning will assist in improving his concentration talents. The main thing I desired to focus on with him is definitely understanding security signs as he wants baseball and uses palm signals although playing the activity. Signs are a great way to teach a kid with ADHD/ADD as it allows children to quickly look at and absorb knowledge.

Relaxed Assessment

The first thing I evaluated with Douglas is principles of printing. Essentially, the things i did was sit Douglas in a calm space within the room and gave Douglas a storybook. From there I asked a series of concerns with certainly or no answers.

1 . Are you able to recognize the front of book?

2 . Can you recognize the back with the book?

3. Are you able to recognize the title from the book?

4. Can you recognize a word?

your five. Can you understand a letter?

6. Could you recognize an area?

7. Can you recognize in which and when you should begin browsing?

8. Is it possible to recognize the end of a sentence?

In all from the questions he answered certainly so it confirmed me he understands principles of produce, an important a part of safety signal recognition.

The next step is if they can identify and name shades. Safety symptoms often have various colors on them. If perhaps Douglas was color impaired, in this area of the assessment We would be able to determine whether or not they can see colours and if he can properly identity them. Understanding colors and the proper brands of colors allows for faster learning of signs as these colors and phrases attached to the signs will probably be better retained when Douglas can remember the words and colors placed on them. He was able to identity the basic colours and even remembered uncommon colours like green and robin’s egg green. He showed interest in identifying the colors and identifying them prompting me personally to think maybe he is more of a image learner.

Half a dozen Contact Period Plans

The first speak to session program involved school safety signs. Essentially, I actually began an analysis with him about university rules and safety. Then I took him on a travel of his school and showed him where protection signs are located. I then asked Douglas to create his very own symbols that resemble the safety signs this individual saw over the school. We all then examined the special shapes and colours to make sure this individual retained the info.
