I really enjoyed reading this story. It had been a good insight on how the U. H. legal system was once so flawed that it allowed murderers and robbers to take advantage of the Indian countries. It angers me to find out that today, many of the Native American people are still separated from what is rightfully theirs. We think that individuals are a civilized, compassionate nation, but it was less than a hundred years ago that we allowed this kind of savagery to take place. We didnt even acknowledge the Indians as persons.
What I found to become particularly inspiring was the characterization of the Osage religion and beliefs. I was fascinated by the Indians means of life and the philosophies. I do think the author performed an excellent work of demonstrating how proper the Indians were in their beliefs.
There are some issues with the story, although they arent critical to the storyline, they did leave me feeling a bit cheated. The story fuses around to many characters, and a lot of subplots that open up. The book ends very suddenly, and that probably would not be so bad if it had tied up a few of the loose ends first. It didnt though. I wound up following all these characters through the story and after that it acquired cut off, which makes it seem unnecessary to have focused on half of the people in the book. I actually ended up following them and then they didnt receive any drawing a line under, so I feel like it took away from the experience. It is like watching the Superbowl, but never knowing whom wins since the t. versus. explodes during the last few minutes.
I have seen a few momemts of the movie Thunderheart, that i think could be based away from this book. My spouse and i am actually interested in viewing it at this point because I am aware that both stories contain an American indian FBI agent who is sent to investigate killers on a booking. It will be interesting to see exactly how closely the 2 match up.
