Trust and family associations are the two main themes in the brief story “Crossing” by Tag Slouka. The story tells us about a father, who will be going through a difficult period, and his relationship to his boy. He really wants to obtain trust from his son trough a trip inside the nature although runs into a lot of challenges on his way. The daddy in the brief story will take his child on a trip to a place by a river, because he desires to get closer to him on this trip.
We have hints over the story the father is going through a hard period following he divorced or segregated from his wife. “And he had not been happy in a although. ” (5). His mind indicates that he performed something wrong inside their relationship and that he knows it. “My Our god, all his other fuckups were just preparation for this. ” (135). “He recalled the two of them coming together quietly, quickly, then his father moving into the camping tent to construct the sleeping bags. ” (76-77). If the narrator makes these sorts of flashbacks it the actual readers thinking about what the river can bring in the fathers heart. When he crosses second period with his youngster on his shoulders he considers it is easier, and he cannot understand where that moment of weakness, where he wanted to pull out, came from. “This vision of death just like a tunnel by the end of the street and no method to move away from or convert? ” (69). His thoughts of loss of life and no method to turn around could represent his anxiousness of losing his boy, but that he have to utilize trying to get his son’s trust and that he cannot stop. When they need to cross the river once again on their approach home, the latest is better and it is harder to get across it. All this figurative language makes the story even more alive and makes the readers want more.
