Esperanza’s mother, whom she calls Mama, provides for a foreshadowing of what happens to someone who does not go after education and lives a life full of regrets. Eventually after institution Mama mentions how the lady could have been more a stay at home mom and recommends, “Esperanza, you go to school. Study hard¦ Have to take care all of your own”(90). The girl with emphasizing that its very important to pursue the education so that you can live readily and care for others. Mama regrets certainly not continuing university because she is now caught up at home just taking care of her family instead of having the best life that education could give her. Esperanza’s mom reflects on her decision to get married aged give up her education the moment she regretfully says, “I could have been an individual, you know? “(90). Mama covers how she could have been anything at all she wished. She had talents that could had presented her for you to freedom. At that time she believed it to be best to conform to the values of society. She discovered regret later in life due to that decision. Mama hails from regret every day of her life, wishing that she’d have chosen to continue her education and take advantage of the options that an education would give her. Mama exemplifies what life is like for just one who decides to not continue her education when it would have changed her life for the better.
Alicia’s mother dies in the new and in her society every time a mom drops dead the daughter is to end up being the housewife. Alicia decides instead to attend a University to generate a better life for himself. Esperanza admires her friendly neighbor Alicia who “inherited her mama’s rolling pin number and sleepiness, is aged smart and studies for the 1st time at a university”(30). Alicia was designed to inherit her dead single mother’s role in the house but your woman decided to have a better education instead. Alicia is certainly not following society’s expectation on her behalf. By participating in college she will escape the dead end life that many residents upon Mango Road are used to. Esperanza sits for the curb looking at Alicia’s residence while taking into consideration the determination Alicia has in order to fulfill her dream, “Boarding two locomotives and a bus because she doesn’t want to spend her whole life in a manufacturing plant or at the rear of a going pin”(31). Persons on Manga Street generally just make tortillas for the family, yet Alicia would go to college to defy that expectation. Because of her selection of going to school she will become an independent girl that many females don’t have to be able to achieve. As opposed to Mama, Alicia chooses to strive for a better life with continuing her education.
Esperanza has many different function models in her your life that make her want to pursue education. She solves that “One day Let me pack my personal bags of books and paper. Eventually I will say goodbye to Mango. I actually am also strong on her behalf to keep me here forever. One day Let me go away”(110). Esperanza conveys about what the girl plans on undertaking in the future while she strives to continue her education and make a better life for herself. Mango Street holds Esperanza and everything the other women by going to university and living a successful life, but Esperanza chooses a different sort of path by simply attending college.. Esperanza dreams of a future where she may be proud of her life while she provides, “I need to be like the surf on the marine, like the clouds in the blowing wind, but I am just me. 1 day I’ll jump out my personal skin. I’ll shake the sky like a hundred like a hundred violins”(60). Esperanza declares the freedom and pride she could have by simply going to school to become her own person. In her life, Vanidad chooses to work with education to be able to the stores Mango Street holds above her to ensure that she may possibly one day live better than living she is living now. Vanidad is intensely influenced by simply those who survive Mango street, whether they are continuing their education to escape the life about Mango street or those who are stuck in Mango street regretting living that they would have had in advancing their education.
One’s path to live a much better life than they might surely have can only start with education. Cisneros portrays the theme through Esperanza and Alicia who lived that life internally on Mango Street. On the other hand, Mama lives the life of regret and remorse of her decision to quit university. Everyone has an opportunity to live a better life compared to the one they have now through education. Employing to forgo education, they will live in unhappiness their expereince of living. Many people in the world today need some sort of success in their life and everyone needs to chance to accomplish this desired success. It just will depend on whether they choose to take the route that may seem too much or decide to not take the opportunity and live in remorse. Persons will always repent not carrying on their education because education is an opportunity to success which can be found to each citizen in the United States. Life may include its hardships but chasing one’s education is in the end the way to their success is obviously.
