Loss of life is a main theme in Annie John right from the start. The story depends on death, explaining that Annie thought just people your woman did not find out died. This can be a strange begin to a coming-of-age story because Annie is so young and is obsessed with fatality. Annie becomes obsessed with wishing to see a useless person close up, since she has never viewed one ahead of. She was curious to verify that people seemed different is obviously than in fatality. She started to go to funerals after school without informing her father and mother because, after her neighbor Miss Charlotte now died, her parents may not let Annie attend the funeral. However , the day finally came each time a girl having a humpback from the neighboring university died. Annie wanted to find not just any individual dead, your woman wanted to find someone the lady knew lifeless. Annie noticed this since her possibility to see a real world dead person that she acquired actually attained when your woman was surviving. She damaged this women’s funeral and looked at her as your woman lay in her coffin. It was her face that Annie planned to see. Annie had noticed that deceased people appearance similar to sleeping people, yet she disagreed as your woman looked at this girl dead in her coffin. Annie is really young and is obsessed with gonna funerals and trying to see a dead person, but is not just any kind of dead person, someone that the lady knew so she may feel anything or nearly anything towards these people.
Annie and her mother have an interesting romantic relationship from the start too. I pick up on a frigidness about her mother. She gets no compassion when the lady tells Annie that children can pass away too. When ever Nalda drops dead, Annie’s mom helps Nalda’s mother put together her pertaining to the funeral because the girl cannot carry to do it very little. Annie’s dad made the coffin when her mother prepared the little girl intended for burial. Next, Annie could not look at her mother’s hands the same. All Annie can see once she looked at her mom’s hands was her mommy stroking the dead ladies forehead. The smell of bay rum would remain on her mother when the lady came back, this sent built Annie sick for a while. Annie would recoil at the sense or thought of her mother touching her food or helping her with her bath because she acquired touched a dead girl. But her mom shows consideration of Annie as well. For instance , when Annie lied about the angler being busy, her mother made her eat meal outside and told her she would not give her a kiss goodnight. But when nighttime fell and Annie was at bed, her mom came in and gave her a kiss within the forehead goodnight.
Two motifs that actually stood out to me were hands and water. For instance , Annie’s father built their house with his own hands. And Annie looked at her mother’s hands in different ways after your woman knew that she experienced touched a dead girl. Hands could suggest a sense of electric power. Another design is normal water. Annie noticed that the girl seated next to her in class ended sucking her thumb. The girl told Annie that her mom got washed her thumb in water where a dead person was given a shower in. This scarred the small because the girl did not desire to put her thumb in her oral cavity since it right now makes her think of loss of life.
