Fats are substances that are not soluble in drinking water but can be dissolved in nonpolar chemicals such as liquor or chloroform (Mandal, n. d. ). Lipid substances are stored in adipose, or fat cells, and can be broken down in our bodies to form an energy referred to as ATP. To do this, the lipid molecule is definitely dissected into their base parts, glycerol and fatty acids. All the fatty acids can then be broken down into two-carbon parts and acetyl CoA is created from every single carbon piece.

Each acetyl CoA moleculeenters into a series of chemical reactions referred to as the citric acid cycle and in the end produces 12 ATP (Hudon-Miller, 2013).
