One of the most accounted top features of a tragedy are the gloominess of atmosphere, solemnity of action, mental conflicts, tension, suspense and capability of recording the audience. Tragedy tries to stimulate the sentiments of pity and fear (Devi 1). As a result, this research is comparing the two Shakespearean and Ancient greek language tragedies, Macbeth and Antigone. This analysis will compare and contrast the two takes on, their motif, comparison of primary characters, conflict, plot and so forth The purpose of this study is usually to provide a more deeply understanding of the plays to the reader and assess the similarity and differences in both the takes on. Macbeth unfolds the story of any man, ambitious to become a california king. He even murders Ruler Duncan to fulfil his ambition due to the prophecy of the three werewolves and his partner, Lady Macbeth. However , this individual ends up dying because of his greediness. Antigone, on the other hand, unveils the story of the young female, courageous enough to break the rules laid straight down by Ruler Creon. She demands rights for the improper funeral of her brother and she also drops dead at the end (Puspita, Arifaturrochmah Setyowati, 2013)

Macbeth and Antigone both lay in the group of tragedy while both the dramas end with all the death in the protagonists. Both dramas are powerful inside their approach while every take action has their penalties and characters need to face all of them as a consequence of their very own action. Therefore, the motif, as communicated in the end of both the video clips, is that people must the tough approach resulting from their mistakes. In Sophocles’ Antigone, Antigone and King Creon have to confront consequences of their actions; while Creon needs to face losing his relatives (Haimon and Eurydice) as a result of his negative decisions during his reign in Thebes. Antigone as well bears the consequences of burying her brother’s body and ends up doing suicide, then the fatality of Haimon and Eurydice. The tragic end may be the outcome of Creon’s foolish decisions during his reign. While in Macbeth, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth face all their punishments due to their ambitions. Girl Macbeth detonates her plans by means of Macbeth by using her gender. The girl fulfils her ambitions by questioning Macbeth about his manhood, (Puspitaet al. 2013) as states

Art thou afraid

To be the same in thine own act and valour

Because thou artwork in desire?…

When you durst do it, then you were a male (Boyd 176).

And along with 3 witches, the lady provokes Macbeth to killing King Duncan and become effective. But , plans have costs, as they spend the price by death. They achieved their ambition but could not possibly enjoy it because of their bad means of achieving this (Puspita ainsi que al. 2013).

Macbeth is considered as the shortest and blood-spattered of all other Shakespearean tragedies. The storyline revolves around the obsession in the title personality with electrical power, which initiated due to the prophecy of the three witches that Macbeth would become king one day, which usually he shares with his wife, Lady Macbeth. The praise generates a conflict in Macbeth’s your life when he gets an opportunity to tough King Duncan to become ruler and associated with prophecy accurate (Jankowski, 2017).

However , in Sophocles’ Antigone, Antigone’s have difficulty starts when she acquires the knowledge of her delivery by incestuous union with the former california king of Thebes, Oedipus, together with his own mom, Jocasta. The moment she learns about the blindness of her father-brother, she follows him in to banishment not to return to Thebes until his death to attempt to reunite her brothers who were in a question over the tub. However , the brothers in dispute are killed and her granddad, Creon, turns into the full. Creon honours the one who was protecting Thebes but condemns the corpse of one more to rot as a traitor and forbids its removing. Antigone, not really convinced while using justice performed, believes that this disrupts the divine regulation and thus, away of her love on her brother, your woman secretly buries the body herself. Creon therefore sentences her to be hidden alive within a cave. This bewildering tale, like Macbeth, unfolds the association among man and society i. e. the opposition associated with an individual to Power and the reaction of Power to the competitors (Stewart 2013).

Conflict

The standard component of the course of action within a play is the dramatic turmoil which results from the hormone balance of opposing forces my spouse and i. e. the ideas or interests, inside the plot. You see, the plot within a tragedy depends on the introduction of a conflict and ends having its solution. The midst of the play includes the advancement and variations in the conflict (Devi 1). The central conflict, critically examined in Antigone, can be said to get one of the State/power against the specific; where California king Creon signifies the power/State and Antigone the individual. This kind of conflict between two features frequently been interpreted jointly between a political electrical power and an individual’s conscience. Watson’s assessment in the play restates that Antigone displays a crystal-clear conflict between the contrary notions of law, the human law and a greater keen law (qtd. in Owoeye 102). The targets with the law of Creon, about the corpses from the brothers, happen to be Antigone and Ismene, the sole living relatives of the King Oedipus. Yet , Antigone perceives herself much less a woman fighting men within a patriarchal community rather being a human being, usa with gods to fight human oppression and injustice to other human beings. Consequently , Antigone thinks this issue as the one between the other worldly and the ordinary, the divine power governing the universe plus the physical forces (Owoeye 108).

In disaster, two types of conflicts i. e. back to the inside and facing outward can be noticed. Outward conflict includes the tussle between two opposing parties, with the hero with the other a single; as Macbeth involves the tussle between Macbeth and King Duncan’s supporters, primarily Macduff and Malcolm; and with his individual wife, Female Macbeth, whom questions his manhood, calls him coward and brings about him to murder Duncan.
