Writing 1

This course provides students with an introduction to college writing. Students will be exposed to a variety of rhetorical modes that are used across the academic disciplines. Students will practice writing in timed settings, but will also be responsible for longer works. Emphasis will be given to organization and structure. With each writing exercise, purpose, tone, and voice will be explored. Writing will be stressed as a process—with prewriting, drafts, revising, and editing—in order to demystify the written word and allow students to discover their true potential. Finally, formalized instruction in grammar and vocabulary will equip students with the tools necessary for crisp, cohesive writing.
