Background Info*
ASTI is a public high school in the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD), founded in 2004 through a partnership between AUSD and the College of Alameda. ASTI was funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. As an Early College High School, ASTI provides students the opportunity to enroll as full-time community college students during 11th and 12th grade. ASTI is built on the belief that ALL students deserve a college education and that ALL students are capable of succeeding at a high academic level. We aim to provide the rigor and support needed to prepare students for college courses after two years of high school instruction. Our student body is diverse and we actively seek out students that are traditionally underrepresented in the areas of socioeconomic level, home language, and ethnicity. Students who are highly motivated and focused on college should consider applying to ASTI. ASTI also provides many leadership and extracurricular opportunities for students who are looking for experiences outside of their coursework. We have a strong student government and leadership classes that organize regular student events and have founded a number of student clubs and organizations. Our PTSA, SSC, and clubs are all student led. Any ASTI student can form an organization or step into one of the many leadership opportunities we have available. ASTI also provides students with unique academic opportunities that prepare them for success in their future. Students are able to simultaneously earn a high school degree and college credits, which are transferable to the University of California campuses and California State Universities. As a small school, ASTI relies heavily on student leadership and innovation, placing a large amount of responsibility on the student body. The rigorous academic program and high expectations set for students attending college as 11th and 12th graders ensure that they leave ASTI with the work ethic and skills needed to flourish in the world at large.
